Vascular Ultrasound
Vascular ultrasound is a valuable and dependable method of identifying patients at risk for stroke, PAD, and carotid/aortic aneurysm. While stroke continues to be one of the leading causes of death, most strokes occur without warning. The Society for Vascular Surgery maintains that nearly 200,000 people are diagnosed with an abdominal aortic aneurysm every year. Over 10% of those diagnosed die when the aneurism bursts. Fortunately, vascular ultrasound is a simple, non-invasive procedure which can identify patients at risk for cardiovascular disease.
A SOUND EVALUATION
Doppler ultrasound is an effective, non-invasive alternative to procedures such as arteriograhy and venography. It can assist the treating physician detect and evaluate:
• Blood clots
• Venous insufficiency
• Heart valve defects and congenital heart disease
• Arterial occlusion
• Arterial stenosis
• Carotid/aortic aneurysm
• Arterial injuries
• Monitor arterial reconstruction and bypass grafts
THE 7L3 TRANSDUCER
Our technicians use the 7L3 wide bandwidth linear transducer, which provides high performance vascular capabilities for carotid as well as arterial and venous studies. Our vascular package features the advanced potential for full beam-steering and low-flow detection.
VASCULAR ULTRASOUND MAY BE INDICATED FOR PATIENTS:
• 55 or older
• Smokers
• Diabetics
• Family history of stroke or heart disease
• High blood pressure
• High cholesterol
• Obesity
• History of PAD
• Excess levels of homocysteine in blood
• Excess levels of C-reactive protein in blood.
